Brenda, along with Thomas, Jorge, and the other Gladers, make their way to the Underneath, a series of underground tunnels that lead through the whole city. Flustered, Thomas denies that he is the leader and she asserts that she felt he seemed more like the leader before kissing him on the cheek. She takes notice of Thomas and inquires if he is the leader of the group. After Jorge announces that Minho will be punished for attacking him earlier, the latter attempts to lash out at Jorge, only to be stopped by Brenda placing her blade at Minho's neck, drawing a small amount of blood. Jorge makes a deal with Thomas stating that only he and Brenda, one of the Cranks and a "genius", will join their group on their journey to the Safe Haven promised by WICKED to Thomas and the Gladers. After a tense confrontation between Minho and Jorge, Thomas persuades Jorge to give him ten minutes to explain everything. The Maze Runner: Book vs.In The Scorch Trials, Thomas and the group of remaining Gladers find themselves in an abandoned building where they are confronted by Jorge, the leader of a group of Cranks residing in the Scorch.Great movie/book character comparison! Reply Delete I wouldn't have changed a single casting choice all of them were brilliant, and once viewers get to The Scorch Trials it's wicked fun adding Aidan Gillen to the cast. On the whole, the movies are far superior to the book series, which is so rare.

He was horrific in the book, probably one reason why I hated the novel so much. But I am so extremely thankful for the change made to Alby. Gally is an extremely unlikable character imo, but Will Poulter brought some little slivers of depth to him that made it impossible to hate him. Gally was made better, I think, by casting Will Poulter in the role.

So when I learned they were making a movie series AND casting Dylan O'Brien as Thomas, I jumped on that bandwagon right quick. My dislike for the book didn't stem from disliking the story, but rather, hating the writing style.

I did the reverse of you, reading the book first (which I hated), and then watching the movie. Dylan is an INCREDIBLE actor anyway, and just makes my heart happy, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster is just lovely. The Maze Runner movies are some of my absolute favorites in the dystopian genre, largely because of Dylan O'Brien and Thomas Brodie-Sangster. Things are going to be changed, whether due to story flow or time as long as the whole basis of the book (in this case being the Maze and eventually finding out about WICKED) is strongly intact and has remained the backbone of the story, then you can just watch it as a book inspired movie. Like I've said with my movie reviewing, don't watch a book-based movie, expecting it to be word for word verbatim. Teresa and Thomas, I was glad they didn't change, I just don't know why they didn't add the fact that they were telepathic, because that is a huge discovery in the books and gave great insight into their forgotten pasts.Ĭertain events were changed as well, such as Teresa throwing the rocks at the boys and the Glader's party for Thomas were made up for the movie and character storylines like Alby and Gally were practically rewritten.

They were definitely less annoying and maybe unrealistic, but the major ones like Minho and Newt were well represented and that was good enough for me. While the other Gladers kept their primary personalities intact, there were liberties that were taken with adjusting them and having them portrayed as more mature then they were in the books and to be honest, I liked them better in the movie. And he did sacrifice himself at the end, but he had already gone crazy. He had his moments, like when Teresa arrives and the boys are fighting over who's going to be the first on top of her, Alby makes it clear that no one touches her or they face immediate banishment. Alby.was just not a good character in the book. Why they changed him, I don't know, but I definitely prefer the movie character over the book. When I read the book, I couldn't believe that this was the same character that I saw as so kind and generous to everyone. I mean I was absolutely shocked beyond belief at how much they had changed him in the movie. He could really care less about Thomas, doesn't believe in partying and sure as hell wouldn't celebrate the arrival of a greenie. The book, however, Alby is cold and almost hateful toward everyone. This character was as far away from book-verse as a character could get! In the movie, Alby is portrayed as being strong and noble he immediately befriends Thomas and gives him a tour of The Glades, he even throws a party for him.
